In the State of New York, his nanny who, it was discovered, had thrown the infant across the living room of the family's home killed a nine-month-old baby boy. The baby boy, Jonathan suffered massive skull fractures and brain trauma that resulted in a coma and eventually death after 6 days in a pediatric intensive care unit.
The boy's mother had received some 160 responses to an ad she placed in local paper for a nanny, and interviewed 20 of the applicant in person. When she had decided on the nanny she chose, she unsuccessfully made an attempt to investigate any potential criminal record the nanny might have had through the local police department, being told that such information is not made publicly available.
It was not until the trial of the nanny who was held responsible for the death of her son that the nanny's extensive criminal past was revealed. Among the list of criminal behaviors, the nanny had been fired from a previous position for attempting to run down her employer with a car.
The nanny was ultimately convicted for the murder of little Jonathan but upon her release from prison, current Child Protection Acts DO NOT prevent her from responding to yet another nanny ad. Without a thorough background search, she could again be hired to be the nanny of some other precious child. DO NOT ALLOW A NANNY WITH THIS KIND OF CRIMINAL HISTORY TO COME INTO YOUR HOME! Criminal records were searched in Maryland from 1989 - Present with the following result:
* On April 17, 1993 the applicant was charged with THEFT IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY
* On June 22, 1993 the applicant was found guilty and SENTENCED TO JAIL FOR 18 MONTHS (suspended), 1 year of probation, a fine of $500.00 (suspended) and court costs of $50.00 (suspended) On June 16, 1994 the applicant was FOUND GUILTY of VIOLATION OF PROBATION and the probation was terminated as unsatisfactory.

*On November 29, 1996 the applicant was charged with DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL. DRIVING A MOTOR VEHICLE WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED AND POSSESSION OF SUSPENDED LICENSE IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY. No trial date has been scheduled as of this date.
